Atyrau Railcar-Building Plant Becomes the First in the Republic of Kazakhstan to Launch Full-Cycle Production of Tank Cars

The Atyrau Railcar-Building Plant has manufactured the first pilot tank car prototypes for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and petroleum products.
The KazCTT Engineering Center has developed new models of a classic design with improved technical characteristics, setting records within the 1520-mm gauge area. The LPG tank car model 15-3234 features a tank volume of more than 88 m³ with no restrictions on the range of LPG cargoes transported. The oil and gasoline tank car model 15-3237 has a tank volume of more than 90 m³ and a payload capacity of 70 tonnes, which is 4% higher than that of the closest analogues. Both models demonstrate industry-leading metal efficiency, which reduces production costs and enables the introduction of competitive, Kazakhstan-manufactured products to the market.

Serial production is scheduled to begin in early 2026. The primary customer for the LPG tank cars will be TEXOL Transport Company, a leading LPG transportation company in Kazakhstan and Central Asia and the largest owner of an LPG tank car fleet in the region.

On April 23, the 6th annual international specialized exhibition Kazakhstan Machinery Fair kicked off in Astana

TEXOL presented the Atyrau Railcar-Building Plant at the outdoor exhibition with a sample open-top gondola car for bulk cargo, manufactured at the plant and successfully tested and certified in 2024.

The machinery fair brought together Kazakhstani and international companies, which showcased the latest technologies and equipment for metalworking and mechanical engineering at the International Exhibition Center EXPO.

The official opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ersaiyn Nagaspayev, Vice Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, Martin Frjelich, Chairman of the Board of the Union of Mechanical Engineers of Kazakhstan, Meiram Pshembayev, CEO of Leipziger Messe, Markus Geisenberger, and Executive Director of AstanaExpo, Kuanysh Kanapyanov.

On April 24, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov, opened the 12th Forum of Mechanical Engineers of Kazakhstan and personally visited the AVSZ exhibition stand.

Atyrau Railcar-Building Plant Represents the Republic of Kazakhstan at the International Industrial Exhibition “INNOPROM. Belarus” in Minsk

From September 29 to October 1, the International Industrial Exhibition “INNOPROM. Belarus” is taking place in Minsk, bringing together more than 510 companies from 24 countries. The business program of INNOPROM. Belarus has become one of the key components of the event. As part of the forum, a number of strategically important sessions were held, aimed at strengthening industrial integration within the EAEU and developing technological cooperation.

At the INNOPROM International Industrial Exhibition in Minsk, the Kazakhstan Pavilion became one of the central attractions. It brought together enterprises from a wide range of industries — from mechanical engineering to the chemical sector. The pavilion showcased not only Kazakhstan’s industrial potential but also the country’s rich cultural heritage.

The Atyrau Railcar-Building Plant presented at the exhibition its open freight car model 12-6785 and the tank car model 15-3234, both produced at the plant. The tank car model features an advanced frameless design and is intended for the transportation of liquefied petroleum gases (LPG) of any fraction and their mixtures, without restrictions on the product range. For the first time within the 1520 mm gauge network, the tank’s volume reaches 88 m³, allowing for the transportation of a greater cargo volume while maintaining the same train length.

“For us, INNOPROM is not just an exhibition, but an opportunity to demonstrate on the international stage how the heavy industry of Kazakhstan is evolving. We are building an industrial cluster in Atyrau and see strong interest from partners in various countries. The delivery of Boldrini equipment marks the final stage in the completion of AVSZ’s production line, which will enable the plant to manufacture boilers and tanks for the transportation of petroleum products and LPG.

On December 16, 2025, the Atyrau Railcar-Building Plant received certificates of conformity for the serial production of its products in accordance with the requirements of Technical Regulation TR TS 001/2011 “On the Safety of Railway Rolling Stock”.

The certificates were issued for LSVF 661351.006 TU “Tank Wagon for Petroleum Products” (Model 15-3237) and LSVF 661356.005 TU “Tank Wagon for Liquefied Hydrocarbon Gases” (Model 15-3234), confirming the company’s right to carry out serial production.

Obtaining these certificates represents an important stage in the company’s development.

Acceptance tests of the prototype hatch gondola car, the fitting platform, and the two-axle bogie with axial load have been successfully completed

Acceptance tests of the prototype hatch gondola car, the fitting platform, and the two-axle bogie with an axial load of 23.5 tons for approval to operate across the 1520 mm railway network have been successfully completed.

It should be noted that the tests were conducted over three months at railway equipment testing sites. Yesterday, the work of the acceptance commission at AVSZ was completed. During the commission’s work, the plant’s production capabilities were evaluated, confirming its readiness to manufacture railcars that meet all regulatory requirements.

“The commission’s final recommendation allows us to proceed with obtaining a conditional marking number from KTZ and, after receiving the certificate of conformity for each product, to start producing the pilot batch. This is very good news for our entire industrial group – it means we are closing the year according to plan and will be able to start production of the first serial batch of railcars in 2025,” said Boris Kharisovich Ziganshin, Head of the Texol Industrial Group.

Atyrau Railcar-Building Plant Included in the Register of Domestic Manufacturers

On February 16, 2026, the Atyrau Railcar-Building Plant (AWBP), part of the TEXOL group of companies, was officially registered in the register of Kazakhstani manufacturers as a producer of the 12-6785 model universal open-top wagon.

The inclusion of the enterprise in the register was the result of completing the established procedure for confirming the status of a domestic manufacturer in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The registration procedure was carried out fully in accordance with the approved regulations and established criteria for domestic manufacturers.

Obtaining the status of a registered manufacturer confirms that AWBP is a genuine domestic producer of railway rolling stock, fully compliant with local production requirements.

Currently, the plant is implementing projects to develop serial production of specialized tank wagons for transporting acids and food cargo, as well as tank wagons for petroleum products and liquefied hydrocarbon gases with increased carrying capacity. Simultaneously, the plant is launching the production of new freight wagon models that meet modern industry requirements.

Excursion of Petrologistics Participants to Atyrau Railcar-Building Plant

As part of the III Annual Industry Conference “Petrologistics, Rental & Transportation – 2026,” a production tour for conference participants was held on March 13, 2026, at the Atyrau Railcar-Building Plant.

The guests were introduced to the plant’s production capacities, the process of manufacturing freight rolling stock, as well as the prospects for the development of railway engineering in the region.

During the visit, participants toured the main production facilities of the plant, where the manufacturing processes of gondola cars and tank cars for LPG and petroleum products were presented.

Particular attention was given to the development of the entire railway cluster in the Atyrau region and the prospects for producing innovative models of railcars and tank cars at the Atyrau Railcar-Building Plant.

The tour enabled participants to explore the plant’s production potential, exchange experience, and discuss opportunities for further cooperation in the field of railway logistics and railcar manufacturing.
